Maddie Hennessy

A simple black and white line drawing of a rabbit with a stethoscope around its neck.

Madeleine Hennessy (b.1999) is a Sussex-based artist who, working across painting, ceramics, textiles and animation, creates modern, haunting works about the feminine experience and the mind. Her work blurs the line between the material and the immaterial.

She graduated from Kingston university in 2024 with a degree in Illustration Animation. For her degree show she presented BH1959, a mixed media installation that reimagined the life of a Roman-era woman discovered on the Sussex Downs in the 1950s, known as the Beachy Head woman or BH1959. The work was a form of speculative archaeology, imagining how life may have been for a young woman living in Roman Britain.

Alongside her studio practice, Madeleine has built a presence trading at independent markets, selling ceramics and art prints and has grown a following for her ‘Slimpy™’ rabbit creations.

She is now based in Eastbourne, where her daily studio practice moves fluidly between painting, pottery and textile work.

Trisha collection

My latest collection of paintings, Trisha is a personification and abstraction of pain, bewilderment, and wonder.

The collection traces a journey into her mind, each work becoming more abstract as we delve deeper.

Through painting, textile and sculpture, I explore how the body and consciousness inhabit space, inviting viewers into Trisha’s psyche.
